More Treats From Bunners Bake Shop

Yes, we were supposed to go only once a week, but we sort of cheated because we have been day dreaming about the sweets at Bunners Bake Shop (http://www.bunners.ca/shop/).
I can honestly say that I dont think ive ever had vegan baked goods that tasted THIS good. Ive had awesome vegan desserts before, but this shop sells over the top delicious sweets.
I cant wait to go again.

Conrad's favourite is the Chocolate (or Double Chocolate) Cookie Creamies
Julie's favourite is the Red Velvet (or pretty much any one of the cupcakes) cupcake.

This stuff is to die for. Yum.

Tofu Pasta

Last night Julie made an awesome pasta. The noodles were made out of tofu (like a fettuccine noodle) with pasta sauce on top (veggie ground, spinach, tomatoes, celery, mushrooms, zucchini, garlic and onions). Topped with a sprinkle of Diaya.

Our Take on Indian Cuisine

Tonight we made a very yummy Indian inspired dinner.

The cooked chickpeas (from dry, and soaked overnight) were added to a hot pot of fried onions, cumin, bay leaf, black peppercorns, turmeric, and garlic.

The eggplant was started with oil, then zucchinis were added, followed by garlic and tomatoes.
Spices included ginger, garlic, hot chili flakes, turmeric and cumin.

Not quite as authentic tasting as when we go out to our favourite Indian restaurant, but nonetheless delicious. Full of wonderful flavours and aromas. This place still smells wonderful.

Veggies + Soba Noodles + Tempeh

Last night Julie made a delicious meal of veggies, soba noodles and marinated tempeh (marinated in: sesame oil, soya sauce, apple cider vinegar, and maple syrup)
Quick and delicious.

New Gluten Free + Vegan Baked Store

A couple days ago a new store opened up in the neighborhood (to close for our own good). Its called Bunners (Bunners.ca ) and they sell SUPER tasty vegan gluten free baked goods. We came to try out an assortment of their treats on their very first morning... however we ate most of what we bought before we thought to take a picture and post it here on our blog.

What we ate (sorry no pictures)
"Gypsy Cookie" = amazing
"Red Velvet Cupcake" = amazing (their cream is awesome)
"Apple/Cinnamon Muffin" = really good
"Chocolate Cookie Cream Sandwich" (as seen above in the picture, and yes the picture was taken in our car, because it didnt survive the trip home) = OMG amazing.

(yes we indulged ourselves... ahem... dont judge)

Check these people out if you want something tasty.
If anyone thinks that vegan baked goods suck, they couldnt be more wrong... we know where all the great vegan baked goods are to be found in Toronto.

French Inspired Onion Pie

The other night, yes, we havent been updating the blog every night... anyway...
Julie made a French Onion Pie that was to die for.

The inner workings:
Homemade crust (from scratch) using spelt flour.
The onion filling included:
-tofu
-onion
-flour
-baking powder
-almond milk
-nutmeg
-black pepper
-salt

Process:
The crust was formed and pre-baked to get crisper.
The next step was a layer of daiya "cheese", zucchini (grated), and then the onion filling added on top followed with more Daiya to complete the dish. Asparagus was cooked on the side

This was a new dish, and it has been added into our "to do again" list.

Pizza Night!

A few nights ago Conrad made a "cheezie" vegan pizza that was more then tasty.
We tried out two different kind of vegan cheese: Diaya (left side of the pizza) + Teese (right side of the pizza)
The Diaya was definitely the better of the two.

Toppings:
The crust is a whole wheat pizza dough, flattened and slightly pre-baked without the toppings to make it crispier.
On top of that came a layer of flax seeds, garlic powder, basil pesto, "cheese", mushrooms, yellow bell pepper, asparagus, zucchini and an additional layer of "cheese".

mmmm... typing this now is making me hungry again.

Celery, mushrooms, carrots, lentils, leeks, red peppers and kale. Spices include garlic, cayenne pepper, italian herbs and sage. On top of that a layer of Daiya "cheese". On top of that a layer of sweet potato mash. Baked in the oven.
amazing.

Raw Lunch - Onion Bread Sandwich + Side Salad

Usually only dinners make it onto our blog, however today our lunch looked (and tasted) too good to pass up.

The side salad included mixed lettuce greens, cucumber, radish, carrots, red peppers and raspberry dressing.
We added a side of (store bought) sesame seed tofu.

Out Again - Buddha's Vegetarian Restaurant

Julie and I decided to go out to our favourite vegetarian restaurant tonight, as they are going on vacation for 2 weeks, and so we needed to get our fix before they leave.
We had a massive plate of curry noodles with tofu and mushrooms, with crunchy broccoli and tofu on the side. We had something called "imitation duck" for an appetizer, which is really only sheet tofu fried. The appetizer, the curry dish, the extra side of veggies and tofu, + the tip = $13 canadian (this one dish is more then enough for both of us, and im a 6 foot 4 inch, 200lb guy). THATS why we love this place. To top it off, we almost never finish and so we got to take some home for tomorrows lunch!

If you ever get the chance to come to Toronto, check this place out. Its in Chinatown, looks pretty crummy (no decorations, old tables... looks actually pretty bleak, however super busy, very nice people, and cheap($) abundant food.
